About Saraswati Bhuvan Education Society, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
History
Before independence, the Marathwada region was a part of the Hyderabad State under the rule of the Nizam. During that period, the medium of education was Urdu, and imparting education in Marathi was considered a challenge by the Nizam’s administration. In these adverse circumstances, a group of visionary leaders laid the foundation for a new era in education.
In 1915, eminent visionaries Adv. Shri Panditrao (Anna Saheb) Pargaonkar, Adv. Shri Rajarampant Rajchandra Pol, Shri Vasant Balwant Vasisth, and Shri Digambardasji Chaudhary courageously obtained permission from the Nizam Government to provide education in Marathi. With the objective of nurturing national consciousness among students, they established the Shri Saraswati Bhuwan Education Society in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Maharashtra).
In 1916, at a time when social conditions severely restricted women’s education, the Society took a bold and progressive step by establishing Sharda Mandir Kanya Prashala — a dedicated school for girls — pioneering the movement for girls’ education in the region.
The founders of our institution were deeply rooted in values, ethics, and social responsibility — a tradition that continues to guide us even today. Former Secretary and Member of Parliament Late Bhauseheb Vaishampayan played a pivotal role in expanding the institution’s presence in rural areas. The modern development of the institution was significantly shaped by freedom fighters of the Hyderabad Liberation Movement.
Former President Late Govindbhai Shroff was honoured with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan for his exceptional contribution to education and social reform. Throughout its journey, the institution has remained steadfast in upholding the principle that education should never become a commercial enterprise, but a noble mission to cultivate human values and build responsible citizens.
The staff and employees of the Society are not merely workers — they are educational activists, mentors, and partners in our mission, collectively shaping the legacy and vision of Saraswati Bhuvan.
